Minister Confirms Ministry of Defence Looking at Potential Threat from Chinese Cars, as Personnel Told to Avoid Secret Talk in Vehicles.

An defense official has revealed that the Ministry of Defence is currently examining the possible security risks posed by Chinese cars, and staff have been instructed to refrain from discussing classified information in any vehicles.

Security Advice for MoD Staff

In a recent interview on a radio station, Luke Pollard addressed reports that Ministry of Defence staff have been told not to discuss classified information while travelling in Chinese cars.

He explained that the MoD is “investigating” cars from China within its fleets, however stressed that safety is a concern in all modern cars.

Our department has a collection of tens of thousands of vehicles in the MoD and those vehicles represent a very small number.
However whether you’re traveling in a vehicle from China or a car from another country, what we’ve asked our people is to avoid connecting Ministry of Defence devices into their vehicle, to avoid having conversations at a classified classification in any kind of vehicle, because of the growing risks of eavesdropping that exist in all vehicle, to only have those secret conversations in protected areas. This is a prudent and sensible thing for anyone worried about safety.

After it was put to him that it would be wise for the MoD to stop using all Chinese vehicles, Pollard responded: That is precisely what we’re investigating at the present time.”

Broader Security Context

The revelation comes as claims from Norway and Denmark have alerted the UK to the presence of dual-use shutdown mechanisms in Chinese electric buses, which could allow the Chinese government to switch off buses and cause disruption to transport systems.

Furthermore, a Russian spy ship was reportedly directing laser beams at Royal Air Force pilots, labeled a “extremely risky” action by government representatives.

The broader defence situation underscores the importance of robust measures and vigilance in every areas of government operations, from transport usage to discussions practices.
